Judith T. Phair, APR, Fellow PRSA, '73, American Studies (back)
Judith (Judy) Phair is vice president, communications, for the Graduate Management Admission Council, an association of 152 top graduate business schools around the world and the owner of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Previously she spent four years as head of her own communications firm, PhairAdvantage Communications, specializing in clients in educational institutions and non profit organizations. She has also served in leadership positions with a variety of organizations, including vice president for public affairs at the Council on Competitiveness, vice president for institutional advancement at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, assistant dean of external relations at Johns Hopkins University , and vice president for public relations at Goucher College . Judy is immediate past president and CEO of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the world's largest organization of public relations professionals. As 2005 chief executive of PRSA, she traveled extensively and spoke to groups in the United States as well as China , Italy , the United Kingdom , and Croatia . She is also the author of several articles, books, and chapters on public relations issues. Judy has won numerous awards for her work in public relations, marketing, and crisis communications. The Maryland Chapter, PRSA, honored her with its 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award, and she belongs to the Society's prestigious College of Fellows . She has also served on the board of directors, American Red Cross, Central Maryland Chapter, and has been active in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), chairing events at the district and national levels. Judy has been an adjunct faculty member at Goucher College and Towson University . Joyce Bosc,'75, Radio/TV/Film (back)
Since founding Boscobel in 1978, Joyce Bosc's clients have ranged from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Her industry experience includes federal, state, and local governments, telecommunication companies, IT and engineering firms, associations, utilities and non-profits. Boscobel's current client base includes some of the largest and best-known government contractors and civilian agencies. Joyce is responsible for the branding and product launch of America Online, including the development of the first direct mail campaign in the United States where free software was delivered to individuals and packaged into magazines. She is considered one of the mid-Atlantic region's leading authorities on marketing, branding and public relations. Joyce has contributed to media outlets such as MSNBC.com, Entrepreneur Magazine, National Public Radio (NPR), WTOP, and Washington Technology, and her column on business-to-government marketing appears regularly in the Washington Business Journal. James Flounlacker, '86, English (back)
Mr. Flounlacker is the President of Epiphany Partners Corporation, a company he founded in 2004. Epiphany Partners provides project management solutions and consulting services to the healthcare industry. Mr. Flounlacker has over 20 years experience in the healthcare market, having worked with software vendors and consulting organizations, including vendors such as Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Apache Medical Systems and Amisys Synertech as well as the consulting company First Consulting Group (FCG). This experience has included the leadership, management and sales of software applications, software development, integration and implementation services. He has served in executive management and leadership positions since 1994. Mr. Flounlacker earned his B.A. in English from the University of Maryland , and holds an Executive Fellows M.B.A. from Loyola College in Baltimore . Eleanor McKay, '67, History (back)
After UMD, Eleanor went on to University of Wisconsin-Madison , receiving an M.A. in History in 1969 and then in 1973 an M.A. in Library and Information Science. Subsequently she has followed a winding path through the applied historical field. At Wisconsin she served as the Manuscripts Curator at the Wisconsin Historical Society, and then joined the library faculty at Memphis State University to manage its Special Collections Department and the Mississippi Valley Collection. In her spare time, she and her husband restored historic homes and established a small antiques restoration studio. In 1983 returning to her native
Washington , D.C. , Eleanor worked briefly at the Library of Congress's National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections. When in 1985 the family business could finally afford to provide insurance benefits for its employees, she began full-time employment at Niermann Weeks Company, currently serving as CEO. The family business has grown into an internationally prominent boutique company for high fashion home furnishings, currently employing all four members of the family and 130 others in five states. In 1983 she had already begun her long association with the Historic Annapolis Foundation in 1983. She has served as a staff member and as a volunteer, and is currently on the Board of Trustees. Her current charge is to raise $600,000 to complete the underwriting for History Quest, a facility that introduces tourists to the many historical and cultural assets of Annapolis ' Historic District.

Michael Olmert, Ph. D., '80, '62, English (back)
Dr. Olmert has been teaching Shakespeare, Medieval Studies, 18 th Century Studies, and Modern British drama in the English Department at College Park for the past 19 years. He holds both a BA (1962) and PhD (1980) from the University of Maryland . He wrote The Smithsonian Book of Books (1992; reprinted 2003), Milton 's Teeth and Ovid's Umbrella (1996; reprinted 2005), and The Official Guide to Colonial Williamsburg (1985; frequently reprinted). His articles have been featured in Smithsonian magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Historic Preservation, Colonial Williamsburg , and Sports Illustrated . He also wrote the feature film The Leopard Son (1996), the IMAX film Wildfire (1998) and over 80 documentaries for PBS, National Geographic, and Discovery, earning him two Emmy Awards. Christopher Randolph, '91, English. (back)
Chris entered UMCP in 1985. He joined WMUC due both to his interest in radio and failure to understand that this “TV” thing was here to stay. A WMUC colleague invited him to write for the Diamondback, the paper's low point. In 1988, after failing to make the basketball team as a walk-on, Chris joined the student Divestment Coalition, which convinced the Board of Regents to change its policy toward apartheid South Africa in 1989. He was elected 2nd Vice President of the Black Student Union and was Philanthropy Co-Chair on the Homecoming Committee – the highlight of which was his appearance on the wrong day for a meeting at President Kirwan's house. In 1990, while skipping class to deliver a speech, Chris was invited to join the University Mock Trial team. He finally graduated in 1991. In 1994 Chris graduated from Howard University Law School . He worked for the D.C. Bar Counsel's office and volunteered with a local political campaign. He was an Assistant State 's Attorney for Prince George 's County from 1998-2003 and now is in private practice. Ryan M. Swann, '06, Communication (back)
Ryan is a Maryland native whose community service began early with his election to his local Board of Education as its Student Representative, which gave him an in-depth understanding of the connection between community and education. While a full-time student at Maryland, Ryan developed formidable “real world” skills in strategic communication and management, first as a Financial Consultant Trainee for ING Inc. (2000-2002), then as Operations Manger for Circuit City (1999-2006), and as Logistics Administrator for the United States Marine Corps Reserve (veteran 1998-2005). He currently serves as a Management Analyst for the Department of Defense. Ryan is a member of Maryland Democrats, National Communication Association, Public Relation's Society of America, Black Alumni Network, and College Park Scholars Alumni.

Andrew Bowen, '08, History (student representative) (back)
Andrew came to UMD from Severna Park , Maryland . He is working on completing a B.A. in History and a certificate in the Women's Studies program. Last year, Andrew finished his history honors thesis and was a teaching intern for history Professor Alfred A. Moss. Presently, Andrew is a teaching assistant for the Honors Humanities program. During the summer of 2007, Andrew performed historical research on a grant from the Summer Senior Scholars program at UMD. Andrew is excited and honored to serve as student representative on the ARHU Alumni Association Chapter Board.
