The College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland encompasses the study of human beings and their activities from earliest recorded history to the present. Through the examination and transfer of this knowledge we gain deeper awareness of human condition, broaden our personal perspectives and develop the tools to pursue our lives to their full potential.

In 25 departments and centers, the College of Arts and Humanities provides education, research and scholarship in the arts, history, literatures, languages and cultures of people throughout the world. Attention to the contributions of Asian, African and Latin American cultures balances the study of Western Civilization. Interdisciplinary programs and research provide exciting new ways to understand traditional bodies of knowledge.

The generosity of alumni, friends, corporations and foundations has also enabled the College to create scholarships, professorships, and graduate fellowships as well as provided essential discretionary support to the Dean's Fund for Excellence.
