45th Annual Sessions of the Middle Atlantic Symposium in the History of Art

Art History and Archaeology | College of Arts and Humanities Friday, March 6 – Saturday, March 7 2015
45th Annual Sessions of the Middle Atlantic Symposium in the History of Art, co-sponsored by the Department of Art History and Archaeology and the National Gallery's Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, will take place on March 6-7, 2015. The Symposium supports excellence in graduate research in art history and features graduate students and faculty from universities across the Middle Atlantic region. All members of the university community and the general public are welcome to attend.

On Friday, March 6, a tea will be held in the atrium of the Art-Sociology Building from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Sheila Dillon, Professor of Art History and Classical Studies, Duke University, will deliver the George Levitine Lecture at 6:00 p.m. in room 2203 of the Art/Sociology Building. The title of her talk is "Portrait Statues and the "Art Worlds" of Hellenistic Athens: Four Stories."

A dinner follows the George Levitine lecture at 7:30 p.m. at Adele's Restaurant in Stamp Student Union. Dinner tickets are available for $40 ($20 for graduate students). For dinner reservations, please contact Deborah Down at ddown@umd.edu by February 15, 2015.

On Saturday, graduate student presentations will take place in the West Building Lecture Hall of the National Gallery of Art in Washington from 10:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. For a program of events see:
