Conversations with Artists: Dario Robleto

Art | College of Arts and Humanities Thursday, October 27, 2016 6:30 pm The Phillips Collection, 1600 21st Street, NW Washington, DC 20009

Houston-based transdisciplinary artist Dario Robleto will share thoughts on his research-driven creative process with Dr. Joshua Shannon, associate professor and director of graduate studies, art history and archaeology and director of The Potomac Center for the Study of Modernity at the University of Maryland. Robleto’s use of unconventional materials inspire meditative contemplation on social, scientific, and poetic sensibilities. In 2015, Robleto joined a distinguished team of scientists as the Artistic Consultant toBreakthrough Message—a multinational effort that aims to encourage intellectual and technical debate about how and what to communicate if the current search for intelligent beings beyond Earth is successful.

The lively Conversations with Artists series provides an opportunity to hear from and speak with leading contemporary artists in an informal setting. Nearly three dozen artists working in various media have participated since the inception of the program in 2006, including Vito Acconci, Nikki S. Lee, Mel Chin, Walid Raad, and Wangechi Mutu, among others. The conversations are cosponsored by the University of Maryland.
