Driskell Center's Claudia DeMonte Lecture Series: Rashid Johnson has been cancelled.

The David C. Driskell Center & the Department of Art at the University of Maryland, College Park present New York based artist Rashid Johnson, the 2012 Recipient of the David C. Driskell prize awarded by the High Museum of Art Atlanta.

Rashid Johnson, a sculptor and photographer of conceptual post black-art, has produced works from all ranges. He studied at Columbia College Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His works have been included in  "Freestyle," an exhibition of 28 important young African American artists curated by Thelma Golden in 2001. The following year, he had his first solo museum exhibition, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. He was a Hugo Boss Prize finalist in 2012. His work has been exhibited around the world and he is held in collections of many of the art museums.

This lecture is included in the Driskell Center's Claudia DeMonte Lecture Series, which highlights the contributions of women and minorities in the visual arts.

Public Reception is from 4:30- 5:30 p.m. and the Lecture begins at 5:30 p.m.
