The Women’s Studies Department hosts a presentation by Elizabeth Bernstein, finalist for the position as Associate Professor. Dr. Bernstein is currently Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies and Sociology at Barnard College, Columbia University. She is the author of Temporarily Yours: Intimacy, Authenticity, and the Commerce of Sex (University of Chicago Press, 2007), which won the Distinguished Book award from both the Sex and Gender Section and the Sociology of Sexualities section of the American Sociological Association, in addition to the Norbert Elias Prize, awarded once every two years in an international competition for the best first book in the social sciences.

In 2010 alone, she published four essays on sexual commerce and anti-trafficking campaigns in juried journals and books. She is the co-editor of Regulating Sex: The Politics of Intimacy and Identity (Routledge, 2005), and a co-author of the Final Report of the San Francisco Task Force on Prostitution (1996). Her editorial experience includes service on the editorial boards of Social Compass and The Scholar and the Feminist, and a stint as managing editor of the Berkeley Journal of Sociology.
