UMD Social Justice Day

College of Arts and Humanities Tuesday, April 18, 2017 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Adele H. Stamp Student Union,

The University of Maryland campus will come together on April 18thin the Stamp Student Union to explore diverse topics related to energizing movements for social justice. The day-long event will provide space for cross-disciplinary groups to discuss key themes, such as immigration in the 21st century, economic development and inequality, environmental justice, creating healthy communities, and media and inequality. The keynote speaker will beRichard Reeves, Senior Fellow, Economic Studies and Co-Director, Center on Children and Families at the Brookings Institution.

This event builds upon the Maryland Dialogues on Diversity and Community series that launched in 2016. Selected themes will allow people to organize and network in smaller groups and engage participantsacross colleges/schools.

The day's events will be followed by aVoices of Social Change talk by Naomi Klein, anacclaimed journalist, filmmaker, and activist, best known for her criticism of capitalism, globalization, and war, as well as a more recent shift to promoting environmentalism.
