D.C. THEATER HONORS WILL BE A FAMILY AFFAIR FOR A BETHESDA-BASED STAGE DESIGNER

You might think that a first-time Helen Hayes Award nomination would be no big deal for a five-time Tony Award winner.

But it is for Brian MacDevitt.

The Bethesda-based theater designer is thrilled to put on a tux for Monday night’s awards ceremony, not only because it’s his first time getting nominated in his adopted hometown, but because his entire family is coming along — and not just as guests, but as potential winners, too.

MacDevitt is nominated for outstanding set design, for Studio Theatre’s “Murder Ballad.” His wife, Nancy Bannon, is nominated as a co-writer and an ensemble member of Theater Alliance’s “Occupied Territories.” Also in that production and nominated as an ensemble member: 13-year-old Jake MacDevitt.
