Professor and Associate Director in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies Heather S. Nathans discussed her book, "Slavery and Sentiment on the American Stage, 1787-1861: Lifting the Veil of Black' as part of the UMD Libraries "Speaking of Books" series.
She spoke on how slavery and emancipation were portrayed in early American theater.
She was introduced by Stephen Henry, Music Librarian in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library.
The series, "Speaking of Books", has been hosted by the University Libraries since 2005, allowing campus authors to engage with the campus community.
