We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mercédès Baillargeon, who will join the Department of French and Italian as Assistant Professor in the fall.
A native of Montréal, Québec, Mercédès holds a Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on the aesthetics, ethics, and politics of 20th and 21st century first-person narrative, the intersection between public/private spaces and discourses, and the (de)construction of personal and/or collective identities in French and Québécois culture. Co-editor of Remous, ressacs et dérivations autour de la troisième vague féministe, a collection of essays on third wave feminism in Québec (2011), she has contributed articles to the volume Loin des yeux près du corps. Entre théorie et creation (2012) and the journal Québec Studies.
