Chillum Internship Program

An Outreach program linking Chillum Elementary School &
The University of Maryland, College Park
Sponsored by The College of Arts and Humanities and The College of Education

For Your Information & Consideration


CHIP will allow you to:

  • Work with elementary school children

  • Provide after school instruction

  • Share your intellectual expertise in your field of study

  • Instill in elementary school children the desire to pursue the study of the liberal arts through middle and  high school.

  • Create in elementary school children an awareness about college

  • Work toward a minor in secondary education
What does CHIP do for you?:
  • Earn 3 - 6 internship credits (EDCI 386A)

  • Gain pre-professional experience in teaching

  • Gain appreciation for the teaching profession

  • Strengthen your resume

  • Provide an invaluable educational service to young children

To be eligible for CHIP you must:

  • Have completed 60 credits

  • Have earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 (or 3.0 in EDUC classes)

  • Have advanced knowledge in your academic major

  • Work well with children

  • Be able to relate to students from a diverse background

  • Participate in a pre-Internship course (4-5 weeks); See current Schedule of Classes for date and time of class sessions
