Catherine P. Mackin Memorial Scholarship
For First-Year
Arts and Humanities Majors
$1,500

Deadline: Friday, April 4, 2008

The College of Arts and Humanities announces the Catherine P. Mackin Memorial Scholarship to be awarded to a student who fulfills the following qualifications. (Note: Students on a full scholarship are not eligible)

Applicants must :
· have entered University of Maryland as a declared major in Arts and Humanities in fall 2007
· have completed at least 12 credits in fall 2007
· have a GPA of 3.5 or above for fall 2007
· be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits in spring 2008
· demonstrate involvement on campus (such as work experience, participation in student
  groups at UM, etc.)

Applicants must provide one letter of recommendation from a University of Maryland faculty member to be sent directly to the College and must also submit a two-page double spaced essay with applicant's name and student number on each page.

Topic:
The transition from high school to college.
Describe your experiences as a new student to the University of Maryland.
What academic challenges did you face? What factors contributed to your success? What advice would you give a new student to succeed academically?
