The
student can expect
.
accurate and up-to-date information about requirements, policies,
and procedures;
.to
be given information or a referral concerning academic issues;
.
reasonable access to advisors throughout the semester;
.
adequate staffing to offer advising to all new students at
orientation and all early registrations;
.
transfer evaluation to be completed within the first semester
at UM, if all transcripts are on record;
.
an individualized audit will be prepared and updated at each
advising appointment, including a senior audit once the student
is within two semesters of his/her expected graduation.

The
Advisor can expect
.
the student to recognize that the final responsibility for
his/her education is his/her own;
.
the student to have read the Undergraduate
Catalog, regulations listed in the Schedule
of Classes, departmental handbooks, and the ARHU Mini-guide;
.
the student to understand no single advisor can answer everything
and that
there are different types of advisors and should ask questions
of the appropriate advisor;
.
the student to schedule an advising appointment well ahead
of his/her registration appointment;
.
if the student will be late or is unable to keep an appointment,
he/she will notify the advisor at 301-405-2108;
.
the student to prepare an academic plan, a list of items to be
discussed and questions to be asked, a proposed schedule of
classes, to check on Testudo
for his/her
registration
appointment and registration
blocks, and to bring all necessary forms to the appointment.
