Course Reserves

What is the UM Libraries' Course Reserves in ELMS?

The University of Maryland Libraries offers a course reserves system to faculty through ELMS. As of May 2008, course reserves will no longer be implemented by the University Library Catalog.

What does Course Reserves do?

Course Reserves allows faculty to request books, chapters, or articles from the library to be posted on ELMS. Once you log onto your ELMS course, you must activate the Course Reserves by clicking the Course Reserves Administration link under the Control Panel. After you have activated your course in the libraries' system, you can either send requests through email or by paper to the library reserve staff, or add items yourself through the Manage Your Course Reserves link in ELMS. After you have requested materials, a library staff member will review your request and then provide the content for student viewing in your course space in ELMS.

How can Course Reserves help me?

  • Students can go to ELMS for all of their course-related materials
  • Your materials are secure and available only to the students registered for your course
  • The UM Libraries will email you when your reserves have been posted
  • The UM Libraries can scan and upload the material for you, or you can expedite the process by uploading the digitized material by yourself
