What is Flickr?
Flickr is an image hosting website owned by Yahoo! that is popular due to its unique social networking capability. Flickr offers both a free account of 100 MB worth of photo uploads per month and a pro account that offers unlimited uploads, storage and bandwidth for a fee.
What does Flickr do?
Flickr allows users to create a repository of photos to share with friends, family, and other members of the Flickr community. You can assign tags (key words or categories to identify the photo) to organize similar images into a set, and also to help others easily locate the photo. Flickr also supports geotagging your photos, or adding your photo to a location on a map.
What distinguishes Flickr from other online image hosting software is its incorporation of social networking features, such as allowing users to create an individual profile and link to their contacts pages. Members can create a group pool, which is essentially a larger collection of images from a community of users.
