What is MediaWiki?

University of Maryland's OIT Learning Technologies provides both server space and the software to host a wiki for use in class, research, and other related projects. The type of wiki supported is called a MediaWiki, which is a free web-based software wiki package originally written for Wikipedia.

What does MediaWiki do?

MediaWiki allows a multiple people to make edits to a single page, facilitating group collaboration. Instead of emailing attachments back and forth, all members of a group can edit in one location. The MediaWiki software provides a space where you can write text, upload images and video, and share with the public or restrict to certain users only. To create a wiki for your class, you must first request a wiki with the OIT department.
