What is Twitter?
Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that allows members to write a message (referred to as a "tweet") of up to 140 characters on their profile page. Tweets are shared with other users who are subscribed to, or "following", a member's page, and are searchable by the general public.
What does Twitter do?
Twitter can be used to deliver short messages, status updates, links, and other brief but timely information to a wide audience. Twitter can be used similar to an email or instant message, except shared with the public and severely constrained in length.
How can Twitter help me?
- Respond to student questions to keep the responses succinct, and to make them public to all the students in the class
- Share links, resources, and other communications with students quickly
- Monitor student understanding real-time by having students tweet in the classroom
- Encourage group communication
