Wimba Voice Tools
What are Wimba Voice Tools?
Wimba Voice Tools are a suite of Web-based applications integrated into ELMS which the University of Maryland has purchased in order to expand the functionality of the ELMS learning environment.
The six Wimba Voice Tools included are:
- Voice Boards
- Voice Presentation
- Voice Podcaster
- Voice Email
- Voice Direct
- Voice Recorder
What do Wimba Voice Tools do?
Wimba Voice Tools allows you to interact vocally with your students, from creating voice emails to recording vocal exercises. Wimba Voice Tools can greatly enhance learning in areas such as language or music. In order to create vocal recordings, you and/or your students will need to have a microphone that can connect to your computer.
How can Wimba Voice Tools help me?
- Create a class voice discussion board with Voice Board where students can submit voice posts
- Attach a voice message or have students attach voice messages to web content with Voice Presentation
- use Voice Podcaster to create and distribute podcasts, which are digital audio files that can be downloaded onto mp3 players for portable use, or subscribed to for instant updates. You can record yourself speaking (up to 20 minutes per file), and upload them into ELMS, where students can download the files to their mp3 players. Students can also subscribe to your podcasts, so that they will be informed whenever a new podcast has become available. Wimba Podcaster is the only podcasting tool that encompasses the entire podcasting process, from creating an audio file to its delivery.
- Send voice email messages with Voice Email. Students can also send voice emails to the instructor or to one another
- Communicate with students or have students communicate with each other in a real-time voice chatroom with Voice Direct
- Use Voice Recorder to record yourself and/or have students record themselves speaking for up to twenty minutes. For example, you can record feedback on an assignment and deliver the recording in ELMS to an individual student
