Wetpaint

What is Wetpaint?

Wetpaint is a free wiki hosting service that allows you to create and customize a wiki, with ad-free accounts available for educators.

What does Wetpaint do?

Wetpaint is easy-to-use and ideal for beginners because it requires no knowledge of HTML or Wiki syntax. A variety of templates (looks and site layouts) are available to choose from, or you can customize your own page. In addition to its user-friendly interface, Wetpaint integrates popular features of social networking such as allowing users to create and join communities and communicate via personal messaging. Wetpaint also allows you to control your wiki so that only certain members have permission to edit or view your pages.

Wetpaint is different from ELMS-based wiki software, Teams LX, and OIT's MediaWiki service because it is a web-based service not affiliated with the University of Maryland. Therefore, Wetpaint is great for projects where you want to engage students and the community outside the University, e.g.working with students in public schools or creating a public interest group and having the members of that group co-author statements, share information, and overall interact with one another.

Wetpaint also integrates social networking features so that you can find and attract a larger audience, recruiting more people who are interested in collaborating on your website's topic.
