General Information

To enable Arts and Humanities faculty (or faculty/graduate student teams) to reach their instructional and research goals, the College is offering the Seminar for Teaching and Research, STaR, series. During these sessions of training and development, faculty will focus on an individual content track which will then be supported throughout the academic year with electives and office-hours.

Focus on the Fall: Technology Building Blocks to Enhance Your Course

During this hands-on workshop you will develop materials for your fall course, and you will be exposed to many of the resources and options available to ARHU faculty to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. Although all faculty are welcome, we are targeting faculty who are new to the UM campus to give them the opportunity to learn how we do things here.

Goal

The goal of the "Focus on the Fall: Technology Building Blocks to Enhance Your Course" STaR is to give you the opportunity to develop or enhance online course materials for an upcoming course. Whether you already have a course website online or just a paper syllabus this workshop will help you get ready for the upcoming semester.

Objectives

This seminar is a mix of concept introduction, skill development and lab time. After completion of this seminar you will be able to:

- Post course materials for your students using ELMS,
- Schedule equipment for use in your Classroom
- Establish a communication strategy for your course,
- Identify images available through ArtStor for use in your course,
- Become familiar with the capabilities of Research Port,
- Begin Course Administration with UMEG, and
- Identify the many resources Available to ARHU Faculty

Who Can Participate

Faculty in the College of Arts and Humanities are invited to participate in STaR. We are restricting class size to 10 participants so that you will receive the support needed to not only gain skills but to complete work for an upcoming course. Graduate Students may participate if a faculty-partner participates with them. Please contact us for more information on this option.
