General Information

To enable Arts and Humanities faculty (or faculty/graduate student teams) to reach their instructional and research goals, the College is offering the Seminar for Teaching and Research, STaR, series. During these week-long sessions of training and development, faculty will focus on an individual content track which will then be supported throughout the academic year with electives and office-hours.

More than Just Text Online: Creating an Interactive Course Website

This seminar will focus on how technology enables the teaching and learning process. Using your course syllabus as a starting point, we will work to match technology solutions to needs identified in your course goals and objectives. We will also explore ways in which the use of technology can enhance a challenging concept or idea for students to comprehend. We will work through the process of creating a course website that addresses these teaching and learning goals by including interactive components, media elements and content resources.

Goal

The goal of the "More than Just Text Online" STaR is to give you the opportunity to develop or enhance online course materials for an upcoming course. Whether you already have a course website online or just a paper syllabus this workshop will help you get ready for the upcoming semester.

Objectives

This seminar is a mix of concept introduction, skill development and lab time. After completion of this seminar you will be able to:

  • Identify technology solutions to needs identified in course goals and objectives,
  • Apply “good design” concepts such as consistent navigation, color selection, file formats and readability to your course website,
  • Incorporate at least one new interactive technology enhanced activity into your course curriculum,
  • Have a better understanding of considerations regarding intellectual property and copyright,
  • Identify campus resources to support your teaching, and
  • Design and establish your course web presence.

Who Can Participate

Faculty in the College of Arts and Humanities are invited to participate in the More than Just Text Online STaR. We are restricting class size to 10 participants so that you will receive the support needed to not only gain skills but to complete work for an upcoming course. Graduate Students may participate if a faculty-partner participates with them. Please contact us for more information on this option.

Electives

The following electives will be offered during the Ffall semester in order to complement work started in the Summer session. STaR instructors will work individually with you to identify appropriate electives to complete the content track according to your own skills and experience.

  • Dreamweaver
  • Digital Audio
