To
better enable Arts and Humanities faculty (or faculty/graduate student
teams) to reach their instructional and research goals, the College
is offering a new technology training program, the Seminar for Teaching
and Research, STaR, series. During these week-long sessions of training
and development, faculty will focus on an individual content track which
will then be supported throughout the academic year with electives and
office-hours.
Using
Multimedia to Support Research Methodology
This
seminar will explore the uses of multimedia in documenting and conducting
research and providing supplemental course content. Whether your research
methodology includes interviews with experts, field observations or
high quality images, multimedia tools such as digital video, digital
audio or image editing can complement the archival and/or presentation
of your work.
Goal
The
goal of the "Multimedia Tools for Research (Shooting)" STaR is to give you the opportunity to develop or
enhance multimedia materials for an upcoming research project or course.
Video and audio archival are the easiest ways to record interviews and
fieldwork necessary to the research process. This workshop will help
you edit and organize multimedia content for presentation during your
upcoming class or simply for archival purposes.
Objectives
This
seminar is a mix of concept introduction, skill development and lab
time. After completion of this seminar you will be able to:
- Identify
multimedia solutions for research implementation needs or course content
supplement needs,
- Apply
“good design” concepts such as consistent navigation,
color selection, file formats and readability to cd/dvd-rom, digital
video or audio clips,
-
Incorporate at least one multimedia tool into your research methodology
or course curriculum,
- Have
a better understanding of considerations regarding multimedia intellectual
property and copyright,
- Identify
campus resources to support your teaching and research,
and
- Design
and establish a multimedia research or teaching tool, such as a digital
video, dvd or cd-rom.
Who
Can Participate
Faculty
in the College of Arts and Humanities are invited to participate in
the Multimedia (Shooting) STaR. We are restricting class size
to 8 participants so that you will receive the support needed to not
only gain skills but to complete work for an upcoming course. Graduate
Students may participate if a faculty-partner participates with them.
Please contact us for more information
on this option.
Electives
The
following electives will be offered during the Fall semester in order
to complement work started in the Summer session. STaR instructors will
work individually with you to identify appropriate electives to complete
the content track according to your own skills and experience.
