To connect to the server via FTP using an FTP client follow
these steps:
- The server name for the connection is acs.umd.edu.
- Your username is: .username.dept.arhu.umcp (“username”
should be replaced with your username on the server – don’t
forget the preceding “.”. “dept”
should be replaced with the abbreviation for your department.

- Enter your password when prompted.
- Your FTP client will open a window showing the files in your
home directory. You can upload and download files as you normally
do when using FTP.
To connect to the server via FTP using a web browser follow
these steps:
- In the location (Netscape) or Address (Internet Explorer) box
at the top of your web browser type: ftp://.username.dept.arhu.umcp@acs.umd.edu,
where "username" is replaced by your username on the
server and "dept" is replaced with the abbreviation
for your department. See www.arhu.umd.edu/technology/acs/documentation/context.html
to find your department's abbreviation. Do not forget
the preceding "."
- When prompted, enter your password
- Your web browser will open a window showing links to the files
and folders in your home directory on the server. Click on a file
to download it to your local machine. To upload a file, drag it
from your local machine into the browser window.
