Installing the Netware Client

These instructions are for installing the Netware Client. Please follow the instructions.

1. Place the Novell Client Software CD in the CD/DVD drive of your machine and open the "novell clients" folder.

2. If you are using Windows 95 or 98: Open the "Win98332" folder.
If you are using Windows NT, 2000, or XP: Open the "Winnt483e" folder.

3. If you are using Windows 95 or 98: Open "WIN95", then "IBM_ENV" and double-click on setup.exe to start the setup program.
If you are using Windows NT, 2000, or XP: Open "WINNT", then "i386" and double-click on setupnw.exe to start the setup program.

4. Once the setup program starts, choose Custom Installation as shown below and click Next.

5. You need only install the Novell Workstation Manager component. Un-check Novell distributed print services and ZENworks Application Launcher (as shown below). Click Next.

6. Choose IP Only and make certain the "Remove IPX if present" box is checked. Click Next.

7. In the "Login Authenticator" window, choose NDS (Netware 4.x or later) and click Next.

8. In the Workstation Manager window, enter UMCP in the tree text box as shown below. Click Next.

9. When prompted, click Finish to complete the client installation. You will be prompted to restart your computer when the installation is complete. DO NOT RESTART. You must make some configuration changes to the client before the machine restarts.

10. If you are using Windows 95 or 98: Right-click Network Neighborhood and select "Properties". In the resulting dialog box, highlight the "Novell Client for Windows" and click the button marked "Properties".
If you are using Windows 2000 or XP: Right-click My Network Places and select "Properties". A window labeled Network and Dial-up Connections will open. Right-click the Local Area Connection within that window and select "Properties". Highlight Novell Client for Windows 2000 (or Windows XP if you are using XP), and click the button labeled "Properties".

11. Properties of the client are configured using a multi-tabbed dialog box. Make the following selections:
In the tab labeled "Client":
Preferred server: 129.2.44.214
Preferred tree: UMCP
Tree: UMCP
Name context: dept.arhu.umcp (dept should be replaced with the four-letter department abbreviation for your unit. e.g., amst or comm).

In the tab labeled "Default Capture":
Uncheck the "Notify" checkbox beneath the "Other Settings" portion of this window
If you have Windows 95 or 98, Uncheck the "Auto End Cap" checkbox.
In the tab labeled "Advanced settings":
Choose "File caching" from the list on the left-hand side of the dialog box and set the File Caching level to "0" (for Windows 95 or 98) or "Off" (for Windows 2000 or XP).
Verify that the Novell System Tray Icon and Show Scheduler System Tray Icon are both set to "On".

Click Okay. You should now restart your machine.
