Follow
these instructions to connect to ACS from a remote site (home or abroad)
using a Macintosh running Mac OS 8.5 or higher.
1. Connect your computer to the internet as you normally do. This
could be by using your modem to dial into the campus dialup pools
or a commercial ISP, connecting via DSL, or connecting via cable
modem.
2. From the Apple menu, select Chooser.
3. From the Chooser, select AppleShare by clicking on it
once.
4. Click the button labelled "Server IP Address..."
in the lower right-hand section of the Chooser window.
5. You will be prompted to enter the Server Address. Type 129.2.44.214
and click Connect.
6. You will be prompted to enter your username and password. After
doing so, click Connect.
7. If you entered your username and password correctly, you will
be given the opportunity to select a volume on ACS. Select Users
by clicking on it once, then click Okay.
8. The ACS/Users volume will appear as an icon on your desktop.
Double-click on the icon to find your files.
User's home directories are inside department directories, which
are inside the directory named Home on the Users volume. Once you
have successfully connected once, you can make an alias for your
home directory on the desktop of your Mac by selecting your directory
and choosing Make Alias from the File menu. Once created,
double-clicking on the alias will take you directly to your home
directory on the server as long as you are connected to the internet.
If you have problems following these instructions or if you are
connecting with a Macintosh running a version of the Mac OS that
is older than 8.5, please call extension 5-2104 for assistance.
