Creating a
PowerPoint Presentation from Scratch
1) Starting a new Presentation File Menu, New
Presentation...
2) Select blank presentation, then click ok to choose default AutoLayout for
Title Slide.
3) Click to add text for Title and Subtitle.
4) Add a bulleted text slide:
a) Insert Menu > New Slide, choose bulleted list layout
b) Enter text in Slide View or Outline View area.
Note:
Powerpoint 2000 displays both views at once in the “Normal View.”
Powerpoint ’97: Use View Menu to
change from Slide to Outline.
c) In Outline View
‘Adjust
hierarchy of content; use tab key or
shift + tab keys, arrows on left, or dragging.
5) Add a slide with an Image
a) Insert Menu > New Slide, choose titleonly
layout

b) Enter Text for title
c) Insert Image
i) Insert Menu > Picture > From file…
ii) Point to file that you want to insert. (Look on disk,
ARTHPowerpoint, WJIMAGES, select one of them.)
iii) Move picture into place by dragging.
iv) Sizeimage by selecting corner boxes and dragging to the
center.
d) Insert New Slide > Blank layout
i) Try putting multiple pictures on one slide.
6) Save your work, test your presentation.
a) File Menu > Save, then Slide Show Menu > View Show
7) Applying a design
a) Format Menu > Apply Design Template
b) Save your own Design Template
i) Activate the Powerpoint presentation that has the look you
want.
(1) Window Menu > Johnsonimages (for example)
ii) File Menu > Save As >
(1) Save as Type:
Design Template, point to Presentation Designs directory
c) Apply your new template to the presentation in progress
i) Activate the presentation you are working on using the
Window Menu
ii) Format Menu > Apply Design Template, find the template you just saved and select it to apply
it to your presentation.
8) Applying Animation
a) Go to the slide with multiple images.
b) Select the first image.
c) Slide Show Menu > Animations > Appear
d) Repeat with remaining images.
e) Save your work and preview it. Select screen button in lower left corner to start at that slide.
9) Reorder Slides
a) View Menu > Slide Sorter, then drag and drop to change the order.
b) Double-Click image to return to Normal View
10) Add a Hyperlink to a WebPage
a) Insert Menu > bulleted list >
b) Use the body text area and type:
“Street in France (Street in Cassis I), ca. 1926-29”
c) Drag and select this type.
d) Insert Menu > Hyperlink…
e) Enter the text below in the “linkto” box:

f) Save your work and preview it. Select screen button in lower left corner to start at that slide.
11) File Menu > New Presentation > click OK for default layout.
12) Insert Menu > Slides from Outlin > select the eqyptiannotes.doc file from the disk.
a) Powerpoint recognizing each hard return as a separate slide. In this example, there is a blank slide between each note. Experiment with different layouts. You could put the image on the blank slide with the caption on a second slide to follow or you could apply the design that you saved earlier.

2) Copy image files to one directory.
3) Download add-in: http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/album.aspx
4) File Menu > New… > Select PhotoAlbum.pwz
5) Insert Picture from: File/Disk…
a) Point to folder with Image file on disk.
b) Shift + click to select images to be included in presentation.
6) Album Layout Selection
a) Picture Layout: try “Fit to Slide” for image only presentations
b) Or try “1 Picture”
i) select frame style and apply design template if you want
ii) Select “captions below all pictures” to include file name on slides.
7) Once you exit this tool you can use all the normal Powerpoint Menus and functions.
8) Use View Menu > Slide Sorter to rearrange the slides.
