How To Download Media from the Web

Video and Audio

  1. Find a Resource with the desired media
    Start with this page:
    http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/S?ammem/ftvbib:@field(NUMBER(@range(5147a1+7053b2)))
    or browse around at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/ammemhome.html
  2. Listen/View Media File
    Click on the link to hear the clip and verify that it is of interest
  3. Download the file
    Go back to the page with the link.
    Mac users:
    Click and hold on the link (or cntrl + click), select "save this link as...", point to desired location on your computer, rename the file if you wish but keep the extension the same (.wav, .mov, mp3...), format should be "source".
    Windows users:
    Right mouse click over the link for the .wav file, select "save this link as...", point to desired location on your computer, rename the file if you wish but keep the extension the same (.wav, .mov, mp3...), format should be "source". Click on "addtional file formats" and try downloading one of the other file formats.
  4. Notes:
    You cannot download RA (streamed real media) files using this process. You can dowload quicktime files (.mov), mp3 files, .wav files.

  2. Typically, if you click on a thumb-nail (a small version of the image) you will link to a larger version of the image. You can download the thumbnail and/or the larger version.
  3. Go to the page that has the verison you wish to download.
  4. Copy the file to your computer:
    Mac Users: Click and hold on the image (or cntrl + click), select "save this image as...", point to the desired location on your computer, rename the file if you wish but keep the extension the same (.gif, jpg, .jpeg).
    PC Users: Right mouse click over the image, select "save this image as...", point to the desired location on your computer, rename the file if you wish but keep the extension the same (.gif, jpg, .jpeg).
  5. Guiding Questions:
