Delivery

When do you use Internet vs. CD-ROM/DVD for delivery?

Issues  CD-ROM/DVD Web
Throughput (access speed) - Computer can dedicate 100% of its power to loading MM off CD-ROM/DVD
- All media components ready for use as program demands
- Average dual speed cdrom- transfer rate of 300 kilobytes per second
- Volume of requests that Web site is experiencing effects performance
- Must transmit each piece as needed which effects performance,
- Relying on modem to transfer data is significantly slower than CD-ROM/DVD.
Programming Interface must be "programmed"  Interface programming is already done. i.e.: dont' have to design the functionality of a "back" button into web page
Changeability Must press another cd or provide upgrade in order to make changes. Dynamic form of delivery system in that you can update the siteand make the new information available at a moment's notice
Platform Issues Developed for at least Windows and Mac. Platform independent
Access/Security Restricted to possession of CD/DVD Open access is possible; limitations are possible.

When do you use some combination of both?
