It links Chillum Elementary School and the University of Maryland. Students have the opportunity to get hands-on internship experience in a public school classroom. For students interested in working with young children in an educational environment or contemplating teaching, this program offers the opportunity to:
- Receive course credit (internship)
- Gain pre-professional experience
- Create lesson plans
- Get instructional support
- Work at Chillum twice a week for an hour
- Participate for up to two semesters
Priority will be given to students in the Arts & Humanities, although all majors are considered. Previous students have taught Spanish, French, Japanese, Dance, the American Revolution, African American History, Music, acting, etc. The course instructor will work with students to pick appropriate topics and develop appropriate lesson plans.
