Career Shuttle: Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture

College of Arts and Humanities Friday, September 14, 2018 8:00 am - 3:00 pm Hornbake Library, University Career Center (3100) -- Meet in Lobby

**You must RSVP for this event via www.go.umd.edu/snmaahcf18 (log in with your directory ID & password-- hurry space is limited!)**

Join us on a Career Shuttle to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture on Friday, September 14! Opened to the public in 2016, the NMAAHC is the newest branch of the Smithsonian and it's mission is to document African American history, culture and life.

During our visit, we will learn about internship and career opportunities with the museum and hear from professionals working in various departments of the museum. Learn more about internships and fellowships with NMAAHC here: https://nmaahc.si.edu/learn/internships-fellowships. Following the information session, you will have approximately 2 hours to eat lunch and tour the museum on your own before we return to campus together by bus.

Students of all majors (undergraduate & graduate) are welcome to attend, though students with previous coursework in history, arts management, museum studies, art history, African American Studies, American Studies, film studies, digital media, photography/art and other related fields may be the most interested in the opportunities available. Space is limited. Once the bus is full, you will be added to our waiting list and notified if a spot opens up. Please note, due to the limited space and the expected high demand for this trip, we will be enforcing our "no show" policy. If you find you cannot attend this event, please contact Kate Juhl at kjuhl@umd.edu. If you fail to attend this event, we will charge your student account $25 to recover some of our lost costs.

On Friday, September 14, we will meet promptly in the University Career Center (3100 Hornbake Library, South Wing) at 8:00 am. We will travel by bus to the NMAAHC. Our information session will last from roughly 9:30-11:30 am. Afterwards, you will have about 2 hours to eat lunch and tour the museum. We will depart the museum around 1:30 pm and should be back to campus no later than 3 pm.

Please email Kate Juhl at kjuhl@umd.edu with questions about this event.
