The David D. Driskell Center For The Study of African American Art and the African Diaspora at the University of Maryland presents The Fifteenth Annual David C. Driskell Center Distinguished Lecture in the Visual Arts in Honor of David C. Driskell with Leslie King Hammond, Ph.D. 

Leslie King Hammond, Ph.D., is a Senior Fellow at the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation and a recently retired Professor Emerita, former Dean of Graduate Studies and founder of the Center for Race and Culture at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Baltimore. She is the chair of the board of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of African American History and Culture, and an internationally recognized artist, curator, author and scholar. She is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Alain Locke International Prize from the Detroit Institute of Arts.

This lecture is presented in collaboration with the 2016 James A. Porter Colloquium on African American Art, held on April 8-9, 2016 at Howard University, Washington, D.C.
