Jefferson Pinder is an interdisciplinary multimedia artist who engages his audiences with unprecedented innovation in his pieces. His performances, video work, and art objects challenge viewers to think critically about our highly polarized society. Much of his recent work focuses on minimalist performances of Afro-Futurism, physical endurance and blackness.

Pinder received his B.A. in theater from the University of Maryland and studied at the Asolo Theatre Conservatory in Sarasota, Florida. In 2001, Pinder returned to the University of Maryland to receive his M.F.A. in mixed media. Currently he is an associate professor in the Contemporary Practices department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

This event is presented in collaboration with the University of Maryland's Department of Art. Light refreshments will be served at the reception preceding the lecture. We hope you won't miss this exciting event!
