Take the Reins

Take the Reins

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Friday, June 7, 2019 8:00 pm Dekelboum Concert Hall,

NOI+F musicians shine in this special performance that combines the demands of chamber music playing with those of large ensemble performance. Performing without a conductor, players will lead each other in diverse chamber orchestra repertoire by Stravinsky, Wagner and Menotti. Adelphi Quartet, NOI+F’s Sphinx Fellowship Ensemble, returns as a featured solo ensemble in Igor Stravinsky’s neoclassical ballet suite from Pulcinella.

Richard Wagner's tender symphonic poem for chamber orchestra Siegfried Idyll exposes the composer’s more intimate writing. Closing this performance is Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti’s ballet score Sebastian, which paints a servant’s melodramatic love journey through sweet melodies and declamatory harmonies.

Program:

Igor Stravinsky: Suite from Pulcinella
Richard Wagner: Siegfried Idyll
Arthur Honegger: Pastorale d'été
Gian Carlo Menotti: Suite from Sebastian

This performance is sponsored by the IGNITE Group.

This is an EnCue-enabled event.

The National Orchestral Institute + Festival brings together aspiring orchestral musicians from across the country for a month of dynamic music-making and professional exploration. Chosen by a rigorous, cross-country audition process, these young artists present passionate and awe-inspiring performances of adventuresome repertoire at The Clarice and in the community.
