Thousands of Miles: Kate Lindsey and Baptiste Trotignon

Thousands of Miles: Kate Lindsey and Baptiste Trotignon

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Thursday, November 8, 2018 8:00 pm Gildenhorn Recital Hall,

Opera meets Broadway. Classical meets Jazz. Old World meets New World. Operatically trained mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey and Jazz pianist Baptiste Trotignon shorten the distance between these contrasting styles in this "artistic triumph" (Europadisc) anchored by the music of Kurt Weill. Bringing listeners to the very beginnings of jazz with deft improvisations and bold arrangements, Thousands of Miles pays homage to composers who, like Weill, were forced to flee their homelands -- Alma Mahler, Alexander von Zemlinsky, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold. This tribute traverses through three European languages all woven together by stories of intense longing and homesickness.
