Miss Maryland 2010, UM Senior Lindsay Staniszewski

College Park, Md. --
University of Maryland senior Lindsay Staniszewski was crowned Miss Maryland 2010, beating out 21 other women for the title during the weeklong competition held in June. Staniszewski, of Edgewater, Md., will be the 75th woman to represent Maryland at the Miss America Pageant, which will be held in January 2011 in Las Vegas.

At Maryland, Staniszewski is pursuing a bachelor's degree in communications with a specialization in public relations. Following her graduation in December 2010, she hopes to continue her education by obtaining a master's degree in public relations.

Staniszewski's platform is "Beyond Beauty: Building Self-Esteem and Positive Body Image in Girls" and believes that every girl is beautiful from the inside out. She hopes to use her title as Miss Maryland and her Web site, beyondbeautyforgirls.com, to help redefine the meaning of beauty. Using positive messages of empowerment, she seeks to inspire girls and teens to chase their dreams and work to reach their personal goals.

She frequently speaks about self-esteem and leadership to students, organizations and at events. She is also active with several nonprofit organizations, including the Queen for a Day Organization and the Children's Miracle Network.
