The College of Arts and Humanities would like to congratulate The Departments of English and History at the University of Maryland for being recognized as leaders in graduate studies.

U.S. News and World Reports recently ranked The Department of English as 32nd and The Department of History as 36th, nationally. Specialties within each program also received high rankings. In The Department of English, American Literature before 1865 and African American Literature were both ranked 8th nationally.  In The Department of History, African-American History was ranked 12th nationally.

These results are based on peer assessment surveys sent to more than 150 graduate English and History departments. The rankings reflect both departments’ national reputation in their respective fields.

Congratulations again on this wonderful accomplishment!
