October 28, 2022 Honors Humanities

First Year Book Author Favianna Rodriguez speaks to HHUM105 students over zoom.

Climate artist, author, and activist Favianna Rodriguez describes the 'Yes' depicted in her art.

Climate artist, author, and activist Favianna Rodriguez spoke to the Honors Humanities freshman class about the power that art and culture have to change the world. Honors Humanities students interviewed Rodriguez about her choice to move away from activist art that says 'no' (no sexism, no racism, no hate) to art that instead focuses on the 'Yes.' One piece she highlighted that does this is "Migration is Beautiful 2018." Rodriguez described the power she sees in art and culture to show us what the world can be. Throughout the interview, Rodriguez discussed how her art celebrates the beauty of migration, plant-forward lifestyles, cultural power, body sovereignty, climate activism, and more. Honors Humanities students then created art of their own that depicted their 'Yes,' their hopes for the world.
