Submit a nomination by Friday, February 8, 2019.

This inaugural award recognizes outstanding and exceptional efforts toward social justice done throughout the academic year.

While Social Justice Day is one day to bring awareness and engagement to social justice issues on campus, there are several people who work tirelessly all year long on building, implementing and sustaining social justice initiatives. UMD wants to bring recognition to these ongoing efforts. In honor of the theme for this academic year—Year of Immigration—this year’s awards will acknowledge those initiatives that increase awareness, engage others, or change lives related to immigration, migration or refugee issues. There will be an awards reception on Social Justice Day, April 11, 2019, when winners will receive a plaque and a donation to be used to support their efforts.

All University of Maryland College Park matriculated students and employed faculty and staff are eligible to submit nominations.

Each nomination must fall within one of the following categories and can be submitted to only one category:

1. Campus program: an effort or activity conducted by a formal, registered initiative on campus.

2. Informal effort: informal or start-up effort that has been going on at least since October, 2018. Effort could be organized by a staff member, a student group or faculty.

3. Student organization: an effort or activity run by an on-campus student entity that is registered and recognized by the University of Maryland (RSOs).

The deadline for nominations is Friday, February 8, 2019. Use the document below to submit a nomination:
