The Office of Student Affairs will be located under the ARHU tent on McKeldin Mall. Explore your passion, discover your purpose and feed your creativity! With more than 50 majors and minors combined, you’ll be encouraged and challenged to broaden your perspective: learn to speak Arabic; read Shakespeare; become globally engaged through cultural and language immersion programs; intern at the Smithsonian. Join us to learn about these and other exciting opportunities! Prospective students are welcome to stop by at anytime throughout the day.

Around the World in 40 Languages

The National Foreign Language Center offers a way to travel. Using our green screen photo booth, have your picture taken in front of the country of your choice and then send an e-postcard to friends and family!

Write Your Name in Greek, Latin and More!

The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and Department of Classics are offering their language skills to the community. Stop by the ARHU tent so we can show you how to write your name and introduce yourself in a variety of languages.

Learn more about the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities (MITH), the emerging field of the Digital Humanities and the new Digital Cultures & Creativity living-learning program in the Honors College. Watch demonstrations on a variety of new media technologies leading the field.

Latin Flavor! Sabor Latino
All day, Outside steps, Holzapfel Hall
The Latin American Studies Center and Department of Spanish offer visitors a chance to explore Latin American and Caribbean culture. Learn about us with trivia games, dance, music and fun! Performances at noon by the UM Tango Club, and Latin Dances. In addition, the Latino radio station, VIVA 900, will bring Spanish music, raffles, games and giveaways. ****Explora la cultura de Latinoamérica, aprende con juegos de trivia, disfruta su música y diversión. Los grupos de Tango, y Salsa actuarán a las 12:00 pm ¡ven y baila con nosotros! Además, nos acompañará VIVA 900 con la mejor música del momento, rifas, juegos y premios. ¡Te esperamos!

Experiencing and Learning Ten Languages!

The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the Language House are offering visitors the world of languages. Join the Language House for an exploration of international cultures of ten different languages and participate in cross-cultural activities.

All day, David C. Driskell Center, 1207 Cole Student Activities Building
Visit the David C. Driskell Center to enjoy the "William T. Williams: Variations on Themes" exhibition curated by Dr. Lowery Stokes Sims, curator at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. Williams is an African American artist whose work is mainly in the abstract mode. Through the use of forms and colors, Williams empresses his life experiences and his artistic approach in paintings and works on paper.

Looking for a tale with a twist? Join the College Park Art Scholars for an interactive program of fabled myths, creatures and characters imaginatively inspired by legendary storybooks and tall-tales.

Israel Dance Instruction and Practice
11:45 AM-1:45 PM, 3732 Theater Room, Clarice Smith Center
Receive Israeli dance instruction by professional dance teacher Mike Fox with the Joseph and Rebecca Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies. Participants will learn basic steps and then use them to dance. New sessions begin every 30 minutes. Please wear soft-soled shoes. No partners necessary!


Department of Art MFA Exhibition and Department of English Creative Writing MFA Reading

Visit the Art Gallery for several creatively artistic treats including the latest works in sculpture and printmaking by Department of Art MFA candidates, and poetry readings by the Department of English MFA candidates.

Discovering the Past, Visualizing the Future: Introducing the Michelle Smith Collaboratory for Visual Culture
All day, Michelle Smith Collaboratory, 4213 Art/Soc Building
The Department of Art History & Archaeology are pleased to offer visitors a visit into the Michelle Smith Collaboratory. The collaboratory, opening in Spring 2010, offers an exciting exercise room for the imagination! Come discover how this state-of-the-art facility will assist students and scholars in their exploration of art past and advance its future through new media technologies.

The Asian American Literary Review Symposium
All day, Ulrich Recital Hall, Tawes Hall
The Asian American Studies Program, Department of English and Jimenez-Porter Writers House offers visitors the opportunity to listen to eight talented and award-winning writers from around the country. Listen as Peter Bacho, Sonya Chung, Ru Freeman, April Heck, Ed Lin, Kyoko Mori, Srikanth Reddy, and Karen Yamashita read from their latest work. Ask them questions in sessions throughout the day. Stay and get your books signed by the writers themselves! Visit the Asian American Studies tent for the schedule.

Israeli Films at Maryland Day

The Joseph and Rebecca Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies will present a series of short Israeli films highlighting Israel's people, culture, and societal issues. There will be two sessions: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
